MEDITATION: A DEEP WELL OF PEACE & EASE

Meditation is ultimately what the original Eastern yogi's practiced and know as "yoga." The physical yoga practice that most of us in the West associated with "yoga," was the warm up, intended to get the crazy-making mind to shut up so that the practitioner could sit still in peace and bliss out. Today, when you meditate, your gift is the same, whether you choose to do your meditation right after your physical yoga practice, or at a another time of day.

If you're like most people, you're probably thinking meditation is a weird, mystical practice that you don't understand, and are a bit scared to try. If you've ever tried meditating, you might feel unsure if you did it right.

At The Yogi Life, we're here to make meditation plain and simple, and to let you know that accessing the peace of a calm mind is your divine right. It's not a state reserved only for gurus in caves or monks in retreat centers. In fact, a deep well of peace and ease dwells in each and every one of us, and it's about the closest you'll probably ever get to experiencing the truth of who and what you really are.

So how do you "do" it? Our method is super simple. Sit up straight, in a chair or on the floor. Start by closing your eyes. Rest your hands in your lap. Put your attention on the sound of your breath. And then start to notice what you notice. Mostly likely, especially if you're new to meditation, what you'll notice is a whole lotta thinking going on. Good. You're job is to sit there and keep listening. No matter how crazy, irritable or weird the thoughts get. Even if all you do is listen to a big 'ol long list of unfinished to-do's. The point is to notice the noise. Don't try to stop the noise. After a bit of practice you'll begin to realize that you are not the noise. This is the first step towards enlightenment. Seriously. It's a really big healing step towards being able to meet all the crazy in your life with calm instead of more crazy. After a few weeks we might even be able to un-crown you drama queens!
